Welcome to the webpage
of the Research Group on
New event: ESI Workshop (website)!
As our research program in the framework of the granted funds is driven by applications, different mathematical areas are involved, starting with PDEs and the Calculus of Variations. Current applications relate to Materials Science and the Design of Nanostructures. Our main focus is on providing advancements in the understanding of crystal interfaces by means of analytically validating models from Continuum, Molecular, and Statistical Mechanics. The involved techniques include configurational-energy minimization, $\Gamma$-convergence, isoperimetric inequalities, partial regularity, and minimizing-movements.
The STAMM 2020+1 initially planned to take place in Brescia and postponed due to the pandemic will finally take place in the form of an online meeting on the 17th of September, 2021 from 2PM to 6PM (CEST, UTC+2h). have a look to the poster of the event for more information on the speakers and for the zoom link to the event. Everybody is kindly invited and we look forward to your participation!
We are glad that Francesco Sapio (SISSA, Trieste) will be joining our group as postdoc on October 1st in the framework of our FWF project in the 1000 Ideas Programme with title "MAthematical Modeling of BOne engineering" (MAMBOing). @Francesco, welcome!
We invite you to participate to the workshop with title "Free Boundary Problems and Related Evolution Equations" hosted from February 21st to 25th 2022 at the Erwin Schrödinger International institute (ESI), Vienna and co-organized by Giovanni Belettini , Shokhrukh Kholmatov and Paolo Piovano . Please, visit the website for information on how to register!
Today the Minisymposium with title "Textures, interfaces, and defects in crystalline and magnetic materials: the variational multiscale viewpoint" co-organized by Paolo Piovano, Francesco Solombrino and Bianca Stroffolini at the SIAM Conference MS20+1 is starting! There will be 19 talks in 5 afternoon sessions. Looking forward to see you there (online)!
Today our WWTF project with title "Modelling and Design of Epitaxially Strained Nanoislands" in the framework of "Mathematics and ..." program unfortunately ends a bit before the expected time because of a change of affiliation. It has been an intense and productive journey. Ulrike and Paolo thanks WWTF for the grant support and their great professionalism!
The workshop organized at Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST), Japan with title "Surface patterns and instabilities: From (bio)mechanics to mathematics and viceversa" co-organized by Patrick Dondl, Irene Fonseca, and Paolo Piovano is at the moment unfortunately cancelled because of the pandemic and OIST budget time restrictions. We will keep you updated of any news in this regard!
Today Paolo Piovano starts a visiting professorship (6 months) at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST), Japan in the framework of the "OIST Visiting Professor in Pure Mathematics". The visit will start remotely due to the pandemic, and include the support for the organization of an OIST mini-symposium with title "Surface patterns and instabilities: From (bio)mechanics to mathematics and viceversa" co-organized by Patrick Dondl, Irene Fonseca, and Paolo Piovano.
